Janet Perreault

A Word from Janet

Just like you, I have a story. In addition to being a wife, mom, grandmother, and workplace employee turned boss, I am also a survivor of domestic violence, divorce, and single parenting.  My life-changing moment occurred in 1976 when my 14-year-old died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound; followed by the suicide of my ex-husband a year later.  My beloved brother lost his battle with cancer when he was 37 years old, and my precious younger sister died of illness brought on my addiction. I know well the pain of loss.

But my message is not focused on loss.  I know from experience how incredible good can come out of unspeakable grief.  In other words, “the climb is steep, but the change is deep.”  I am excited for the opportunity to share my journey and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.  Trust me; experience is a great educator and a strong motivator!

How about you?  What is the climb you are facing, either personally or professionally?  Whether you feel stuck in your job or stuck in your life, the principles to move forward are the same.  You can learn how to tackle life’s challenges in a way that’s authentic and practical; where the heaviness of being human can also pair with hope and, yes, even joy.

At one point in my life, I could never have imagined being happily married to a loving husband, the mother of two beautiful and talented daughters, and grandmother to five delightful and talented grandchildren. I am the recipient of so many unexpected blessings.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Janet’s professional background has allowed her to work in both the corporate and non-profit worlds.  Early in her career she worked for attorneys and before long had her own legal transcription business so she could be home with her children in their early years. As they got older, she moved into the field of healthcare public relations, marketing, and administration.  For nine years, she co-authored a weekly newspaper column in California for working women.

She has been an educator to young and old alike relative to depression and mental health.  In 1992, Janet co-founded the Suicide Prevention Partnership (SPP).  Her work as a SPP Hotline crisis interventionist and as a public speaker has made a difference in the lives of countless individuals and families over the years.

In addition to her outreach through Speaking from Experience, Janet served on the boards of two (soon to be three)  non-profits, and in women’s ministry leadership roles at two churches,. She continues to lead a Bible Study with the same group of women who have become dear friends over the years.

PERSONAL BACKGROUND

Married in 1973 Janet and her husband Rene make their home in the beautiful foothills of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Their two married daughters have blessed them with five incredible grandchildren.  “God has allowed me many experiences in my life, including a lot of difficult challenges. Thankfully, we have a God of redemption. I love Him, my family, and my life. Oh, and chocolate, lots of chocolate.” says Janet.
